The HST New Housing Rebate is limited to owner occupants of a new home or new condominium and the HST New Residential Rental Property Rebate is available to those buying a new home or new condominium as an investment. Not everyone buying a new home or new condominium with owner-occupancy in mind for themselves (or a relation) will qualify for the Federal and Ontario rebates. If an individual buys a brand-new cottage, ski chalet, vacation condominium or recreational property and he or she already owns a primary place of residence elsewhere, the 13% HST will be payable on the full purchase price of the second property with no rebates.
